Music Review

Jillian Hughes
Music Review

I recently went to another Jack’s Mannequin concert, yes another one. This was my 3rd time seeing them play. The show was at the House of Blues in Boston, MA. They had two show openers, the first was Erin McCarley. I have never heard of her before the show but she was really good. She reminded me of Tristan Prettyman. I ended up downloading a few of her songs when I got back. The next opener was Matt Nathenson who was unbelievable live. He has a lot of energy and a great voice plus he is originally from outside of Boston so everyone was going nuts when he came on.
Finally Jack’s Mannequin came on. My friend and I were sitting up in the VIP balcony which I liked because we had a great view but we were not in the crowd being pushed to the front. I enjoyed sitting there watching sipping on my Sam Adams Summer Ale. I had recently seen them play a few months prior to this show so I was wondering if it was going to be the same. It wasn’t at all, they played completely different songs. I will say I noticed that he didn’t interact with the crowd as much as he did at the other show. This was also a much larger venue so it wasn’t as personal I suppose. After the show we waited at the side door and got to talk to Matt Natheson, I asked him if he ever dated the lead singer from sugar land because she covers one of his songs. He replied saying “I wish” with a big smile. Then Andrew came out and we got a few pictures and chatted before we took off. Over all it was a great concert and those guys are just good people.

mic

This is the last slice I'm posting. Its from the mic in the Jacks Mannequin photo. I like this because this is how he makes all his good music :)

Tristan Prettyman

This slice cut out the rest of her but it still looks cool because if you listen to Tristen a lot of her music is about love and this image shows her zoomed in on her heart necklace which I liked.

Owl City

This is the guy from Owl City...I dont remember his name but I just started listening to him. He has really good beats and the lyrics are good too. I think he has a new cd coming out soon which I want to get. This slice cut out everything around him which was like a birthday sign...

Daveeeee

This one is for my mom...This is of Dave Matthews and it sliced him up in different parts but I like how it zoomed in on his mouth. The rest of his body is cool too because you still don't know who your looking at.

Slices

So I was looking on my thumb drive and found all these slices from the mineself project from digital art. The slices cut up all my imiages and made really cool new ones. I thought these would be cool to post since it relates to class...and since I love music I picked these ones first. This is the lead singer of Jacks Mannequin...The above slices came out cool too...it was the whole thing spelled out but some of it got cut up.

Art Exhibit

Jillian Hughes
Senior Art Exhibit

Recently I went to view the senior art show. When I first walked in I thought it seemed pretty bare. There was not as many seniors in the show case as I thought there would be. The first painting I walked up to was of a giant street. It looked as if it was from a play. I was impressed because it was so big. Then I walked around and looked at different photos seniors took. Everything was pretty good but there were two exhibits that stood out the most to me. The first exhibit you walk behind a cloth and when you are inside this box like set up you instantly feel like you are in a church because of the bench, cross and red wine you have at communion. To the right of me about seven robes all painted different colors were hanging up. These robes where used in the images in front of me. In the different images a girl wore the different robes. She was posed differently each time in a cemetery. Each photo had different things in the backgrounds. All the images were very mystical. The photos ranged from sword fights to throwing fire. I didn’t really understand everything about her piece but thought it was fascinating.

The next exhibit that stood out was the Alison in Wonderland showcase. This was all about recreating Alison in Wonderland. The girl dressed up and had others help dress like the characters from the movie. Then she took stunning black and white photos of the “characters” moving around as if still frames from the movie. Then all around the photos on the wall were what looked like props from the movie or in this case from her photos she took. There was little tables with all the tea cups with the magic poison like from the movie. On the tables there were little clocks and lamps as well. Everything was in perfect place to make you feel like you were there. I thought these two were the most creative from the show. This was my first time at a college showcase and I was very impressed.

Amsterdam

I love this picture. I took it when I was on a field hockey team trip to Germany. This was taken in Amsterdam...I like it because it captures what I remember in Amsterdam (beseides the red light district and yes alllll the weed) but all the little houses, bikers and rivers. Lets just say if I wasnt on a school trip I would have enjoyed Amsterdam a lot more :)

Ireland

This was a little village we stopped at when we did the Ring of Kerry drive in Ireland. We (my dad borther and jenny!) ate at the little red building at the very end, Murphys pub. I can't even remember what I had...sad. I will pay more attention next time.

Italy

This was taken when i was studying abroad in Italy last year. The amalfi coast is so amazing. I want to go back when I'm not a broke college kid and can actually afford things...like all the wonderful paintings! And good sea food! I will be back there for sure.

Switzerland

This was over my spring break last year... I got motivated to put up pitcures I took from last year that I really like. I took this snowboarding. This was probs the best snowboarding of my life. The weather was so warm and the snow was more then perfect. It was like riding on clouds. I'm putting this back on my list of places to go!

Paris...

This was taken later that night...after the wine...still came out pretty good.

cheers to paris...

Im adding this picture because it makes me so happy when I see this. This was taken last year about this same time when I was visiting in Paris with a few friends. We got to stay with great people too. This pitcure was taken on some green near the Effiel tower...a few bottles of wine and some fresh baguettes doesnt get any better then that. I wish I was back there right now.

why rain sucks sometimes...

So I never know what to blog about and I’m hanging out with my friend Kelsey. She suggested I talk about our night out this past weekend. So it was down pouring ridiculously and everyone wanted to take the “drunk bus” which is supposed to go around every 30 minutes. So we went up and waited for it for about 15 minutes, 5 minutes before the time it should have been there and then 10 minutes after that. Needless to say we were soaked. Me being a genius called one of my good friends who picked us up in her jeep to bring us to the bar. Too bad my water proof coat was not so water proof and I looked like a “wet rat”. Thanks Murph.

college is over...

So college is almost over not sure how I feel about that. Good news is I landed a second interview at Northwestern Mutual to be a financial advisor in Boston which is great. I’m moving to Boston next Monday which is exciting then I have the interview that following Wednesday. Keeping my fingers crossed at this point.

Good Movies...

I just saw a good movie that was pretty good. It was called Taken. The film was about two 17 year old girls who go to Paris on spring break. They end up being kidnapped. One girls father is ex CIA or something so he goes over there right away to try and find her. Not to ruin it but he is bad ass and takes on a whole Russian mob in order to find her. Watch it to find out what really happens…

Kings of Leon-Only by the Night

This CD has grown on me...once I heard everything a few times I started to really like it.

Song of the day...

Kings of Leon- Revelry...

What a night for a dance,
you know, i'm a dancing machine
put the fire in my bones
with the sweet taste of kerosene

i get lost in the lights,
so high, i don't want to come down
to face the loss of the good thing that i found

woo hoo hoo
woo hoo hoo

in the dark of the night
i can hear you calling my name
with the hardest of hearts
i still feel full of pain

so i drink and i smoke
and i ask
if you're ever around
even though it was me
who drove us right in the ground

see, the time we shared
it was precious to me
all the while i was dreaming of revelry

on a run, baby, run
like a steam down a mountainside
with the wind in my back
i don't ever even bat an eye
just know it was you all along
who had a hole in my heart
but the demon in me
was the best of friends from the start

so the time we shared
it was precious to me
all a while i was dreaming of revelry
dreaming of revelry

and i told myself
for the way you go
it rained so hard
it felt like snow
everything came
a' tumbling down on me
in the back of the woods
in dark of the night
careless, your moonlight
everything just felt so empty
dreaming of revelry

Kelly Clarkson Cont Part 2

Here is a normal picture of her...do the math.

Kelly Clarkson Cont.

Here is the picture of her CD...what do you think?

Kelly Clarkson

So its been a while since my last post. But in that time I was compiling a list of music to discus in my blogs. The first thing I want to blog about is a question posted in class. Have we seen anything in media lately that looks digitally edited? The first thing I thought about was the New Kelly Clarkson CD which is totally air brushed…what do you think?

Jack's Mannequin Movie

Here are some video clips from the show.

Jack's Mannequin

This is the most recent show I went to see. Above is a picture of Andrew McMahon the lead singer of Jack’s Mannequin. I saw them play in December at Paradise in Boston, MA.

New to this...

This is my first blog. I decided I would start by talking about something I enjoy, music. I’m going to start by adding some pictures or videos of recent concerts I have been to or just music I like in general. Since this blog is for my digital art class I plan on incorporating what I have been learning in class and applying it to this blog.
